Obama makes his bold proclamations on his first days in office … one of the first being that Guantanamo Bay prison will be closed by the end of 2009.
Now that it will not become a fact … someone must take the fall.. and it looks as though that will be Obama’s right hand lawyer in the White House .. Greg Craig … just may be it.
It falls in place with how Obama works. Use whom you must when you must to accomplish what you must .. then pile the blame on someone else when it doesn’t work and use them as needed.
Beside that point.. there is something interesting to know.
President Bush had been working to resolve the issues at Guantanamo prison and knew along with his assistants that Obama’s proclamation to close Gitmo by January of 2010 was a reckless one.. one done without much research into what it all involved. Had Obama paid attention to detail .. he would have known that right along.
So far 17 prisoners have been transferred since Obama took office.
In the first nine months of 2008 …. the Bush administration had transferred 19.
Bush up by two .. and here we all thought he was that bad guy in the mix and why not? Someone had to be.
And so someone has to be now.
