Everyone Is Fair Bait

…… White House press secretary Robert Gibbs issued a pointed warning to opponents of Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s Supreme Court nomination Wednesday, urging critics to measure their words carefully during a politically charged confirmation debate.

“I think it is probably important for anybody involved in this debate to be exceedingly careful with the way in which they’ve decided to describe different aspects of this impending confirmation,” Gibbs said. …….

The idea that Sonia Sotomayor should be dealt with with kids gloves..that somehow she is different from any other candidate for the Supreme Court .. is plain silly.

Why should that be?  How is she different?

Her color?  Her ethnicity?  Her background?  Her experience? Her views of life?  Her perspective of fair and equal justice to all?  Her views of the Constituion?

The only thing that should be taken into consideration are her views of the Constituion of the United States and whether or not she believes it is solid and applies to all .. irregardless of color or age or heritage or gender … and whether or not she has the wisdom to interpret and apply the Constitution in every decision that would come before her as a Surpreme Court judge … fairly to all .. irregardless of color or age or ethnicity or gender.

The Supreme Court …. as all courts … does not make law. It interprets it. Therefore another question should be taken into consideration.

Will she.. Sotomayor…  interpret and apply the law of the land… or will she in any case attempt to bend the law and remake it?

Her personal feelings and ideas and leanings should have no bearing whatsoever on any judgements she would make.

Supreme Court justices … in the interest of our country and all American citizens.. need to be able to strip themselves of all personal views before they enter that mighty courtroom in which they plan to sit for life.

If a nominee can be seen to not be able to accomplish that … then there is no way that person should ever be put in that seat.

Nothing else is important here.

The idea that anyone has to imply in any way that Sotomayor should somehow be treated differently in the debate concerning her worthiness to sit on the bench of our Supreme Court should in itself be ringing loud alarms in those who would vote for her.

The fact that it is the White House press secretary who is warning people to watch their words where Sotomayor and her confirmation is concerned is more than a red light.

It should be a wild explosion going off in every mind of those who would be voting for that confirmation.

This is the Supreme Court of our land …that court which upholds our Constituion.

Will Sotomayor do this .. as a justice in that court .. uphold our Constitution? It takes great wisdom to be able to do that… so another question is… though Sotomayor may have great intelligence .. does she have wisdom?

If there is a single doubt that she will uphold the Constituion with wisdom  …. then she should not be on that court.

Simple.
